It’s a shame we have to deal with arguments over what Pilates is and isn’t everyday because at the moment it’s tending on social media but I am definitely on team Authentic 🤓

The true authentic original Joseph Pilates Method included everything and using his whole system you will work all the body systems in some way. To list a few things Joseph Pilates thought of as part of his method:

  • Skeletal system ✔️
  • Breathing ✔️
  • Alignment ✔️
  • Nervous system ✔️
  • Lymphatic system ✔️
  • Muscular system ✔️

The whole System is apparatus, mat, standing sequences and much more. It’s not just one singular section. Joe thought of the neurological system and it’s already built into the Pilates system when taught authentically so we don’t have to and all bodies benefit.

Other types of exercise claiming to be Pilates are fun and have benefit to the body and mind, but it’s just not Pilates.

Bodies have not changed since Joe developed his method and system of exercises so we as authentic teachers have no need to change anything but don’t worry, we work with the bodies needs on that day and can adapt to suit every person. He made every type of apparatus to help all your needs:

  • In a mat class the strap on the mat helps stabilize, mobilize and strengthen where we want it.
  • The barrels help support, open or even add a challenge.
  • The magic circles well they are just magic.
  • The poles assist posture, alignment, mobility, stretch and help find deeper connections.

Classical/Authentic/Original however you refer to it the Joseph Pilates Method. It works, I love it, I teach it and I have the apparatus made to his genius designs and specifications. The benefits are endless and the whole body is used in every moment.

The name Pilates does matter and how the System is applied is how to create the real Pilates magic.
