Try and be patient with Pilates. The real Joseph Pilates Method takes time to make lasting changes which means more than one lesson. It doesn’t matter if you are already strong and fit in other things you still need to master the basics in Pilates before doing the advanced moves. When starting with injury or imbalances you need to understand the basics in order to make changes in your body.
Every movement matters. Your alignment, connection, posture, speed, technique, position, balance and breathing are important. It’s better to do fewer good ones than many bad ones. Your teacher is trying to help you chance pattens held in your body. Correct bad habits and balance your body and muscles. This takes time, repetition and consistency.
It does matter if your little finger is not gripping what you are holding correctly. It affects your whole body. We incorporate the whole body into the movement. It’s never just one part it’s your whole body it all has a purpose in any movement.
My client here is impressive just being able to lift up into teaser. But there is things going on that we can make better. Reminders we constantly give. Even when you do the first couple of times great by the third one you might lapse in concentration, connection or feel tired. This is why we constantly give you little reminders. They make all the difference. This is a photo of a moment before I reminded my client of some of the the imbalances that were happening unconsciously. There are many ways to correct what is going on here. As long as they are noticed and corrected that is all that matters to make changes and break habits and make lasting new patterns.
If you like doing things fast and don’t like following instructions Pilates probably isn’t for you .
