Joseph Pilates original property includes his studio, his home and a more modern home that was built after his passing. Now owned by Sean P Gallagher which includes most of his original Pilates equipment and much more. Houses archival authentic treasures. You can visit the museum and even have a pilates lesson here or attend teacher authentic pilates workshops.

I am fortunate to have visited here on 3 occasions so far, which was amazing each time. Learning and teaching and trying out original equipment here is just mind blowing. Some of the equipment in the studio here on the Isle of Man has been in this very studio or replicated from it. 🤓🤩.

Joseph Pilates taught the dancers here, most famously in the Tea Garden as pictured below. His own property and studio was just 2 mins up the road from here where he could teach privates on the equipment and mat to smaller groups. It was here the famous exclusive mat class was taught to the dancers that is know as 34 in 34 from Pilates at the Pillow. This is possible from the dancers notes of Shirley Trevor Underwood and the research and delivery of Sean P Gallagher and Elaine Ewing. Thanks to Norton from the archival museum for letting us see the original notes and permission for us to take part in the class at Jacob’s Pillow. Norton provides a great history chat and video and interviews relating to this when you visit and other dance related history. It’s fun taking part in this class and many other original and authentic archival treats here. It’s a very interesting place for Pilates teachers but anyone can visit here and they still host dance productions. Pilates at the Pillow takes place here which began in 2018. It mostly couldn’t take place until 2018 due to wait for the on-site accommodation to be built. This allows 40 teachers from around the world to be able to stay on site and do exclusive archival Pilates all day. I Have been lucky enough to of attended 3 of these events. The learning here is unmatched and truly magical. You connect not only to pilates but to new friends from around the world. Bonus is it is a beautiful and picturesque place to visit and stay.
